8 hours on a plane is a day wasted but nowhere 2 hours away is warm enough or far enough for me to really feel like I’m on holiday. So, where I ask myself is the best holiday destination from London and other parts of UK for us Brits?
The ideal flight time for me is 4-5 hours and looking on the world map, there are a host of warm, luxurious and relaxing destinations within that flying time. Shame, none of the travel companies like Best at Travel, Kuoni, Virgin Holidays, Letsgo2 or Holiday Hypermarket ever consider that. You end up searching these sites for hours with a highly confused state of mind. Having been through this, I decided to post a little research for those facing the same dilemma as me.
So, which are the best Holiday destinations for people flying from the UK?
This listing will help you find your next holiday.
First, where do us Brits go most on holiday? I went through some search records on Google and found the following:
Top Holiday Destinations (by number of travellers from UK every year)
1. Spain holidays Since Spain is the most popular holiday destination for us Brits with over a million searches a month, I’ve divided Spain into regions to fully calculate its popularity.
- Majorca holidays – Majorca or Mallorca is heaven. I’ve been there myself. With a vibrant nightlife and amazing scenic views and beaches, this largest of all Spanish island tops Spanish holiday charts with over 300,000 monthly searches for Majorca alone. If you’re looking for a party place or an opportunity to be in the quiet surrounded by nature, Majorca is your best bet.
- Tenerife holidays – Tenerife is the largest of the 7 canary Islands in the Atlantic ocean. Just off the coast of Morocco, Africa, this Spanish territory commands the status of one of the most popular tourist destinations around the world. As they say, the place where spring never ends, Tenerife is the highest point of Spain with its Mount Teide volcano. The temperature averages 20 degrees celcius throughout the year and is considered to be the best in the world by many. 320,000 searches online every month.
- Gran Canaria holidays – Also one of the seven canary islands, the Gran Canaria is the second largest and second most populated after Tenerife. Volcanic in nature, The Gran Canaria offers a unique natural experience, with fissure vents, different soil and vegetation. The Gran Canaria is famous for its family holidays and is full of well appointed resorts. 180,000 monthly searches.
- Ibiza holidays – Ibiza is a beautiful little Spanish island located in the Mediterranean sea that has become hugely popular as a holiday top spot in the last 35 years. What makes Ibiza special is the extended coast line of sandy beaches, a chilled out way of life and seclusion. As all Spanish holidays, Ibiza town will offer you a buzzing nightlife and for those looking for peace and quiet, there are plenty of resorts surrounded by nature and tranquility. 135,000 searches per month.
- Other notable Spanish holiday destinations – With a 100,000 British people searching for holiday packages in Benidorm, this is the 5th most popular Spanish holiday destination followed by Costa del Sol at 60,000 searches and Lanzarote (another beautiful canary island) with 55,000 searches. Recommended – Spain holidays
If you haven’t yet experienced a Spanish holiday, you haven’t yet been on your best holiday. Majorca alone gets 2.5 million British holiday makers a year and 2008 was a record high.

Travel world wide without much cash? You must be crazy! Everyone knows that world travel takes a lot of money and that if you don’t have money, you can’t do it.
Wrong! The only thing it takes to travel the world is a passport and the will to travel. Just pick up one foot and put it in front of the other. The hard part is getting away from your attachments to the things that hold you back. If you have to pay a hefty mortgage bill, auto payments, insurance premiums, and credit card bills, chances are that you aren’t going to break free from your job and move out into the world of travel.
So, how do you break free and become a world traveling vagabond? First of all, you have to get rid of all that debt. If your house payments are costing you more than your house is worth, sell it. Get out from under that monstrosity, even if you take a loss. Next, get rid of your hummer and start taking the bus. Get a consolidation loan for all of your debts and then negotiate for a lower interest rate, or just go bankrupt! Why not! The whole world awaits you!
Worried about pulling your kids from school? Why? Public education stinks and your children will get a better education on the road than they will ever get in some under funded, state supported school. Maybe it’s your family that is holding you back. Wife doesn’t want to travel? Dump her, put her at her mother’s, or let her support the household while you are gone. Same goes for husbands. Who needs a stick in the mud?
Finally, the job. Tell your boss that you don’t want to come to the office any more. Tell him you will be more productive from home. Tell him that you need some time to figure things out. Or just quit. The world is waiting and you are dying! It’s time to live! Travel world wide and damn the consequences.

England is up there with Europe’s very best countries to visit. From the bright lights of London to the ever-welcoming greenery of the countryside, England, as they say, simply has it all.
Luxury travel in the country is particularly rewarding. The quality of life here is exceptional as it is – if you can afford to buy into its more elite circles, the comfort and possibilities of day to day holidaying become endless. Here, then, is a quick rundown on the best parts of luxury travel in England….
Accommodation
From big-name city hotels to designer boutiques, country-seat mansions and middle-of-nowhere spas, England boasts an almost immoderate arrange of luxury hotels.
London, unsurprisingly, boasts many of the most famous. The Ritz on Picadilly Road, for example, and The Lanesborough in Knightsbridge. Elsewhere in the city, smaller boutique hotels are currently all the rage, with places such as The Portobello in Notting Hill and The Zetter in Clerkenwell ever popular choices.
Move away from London and luxury travel in England becomes all about countryside splendor. The country’s rural areas are famously idyllic, and, as long as you’re willing to brace some pretty chilly weather around winter-time, they’re also exceptionally inviting. Golf hotels, hotels in country mansions, and B’n'Bs-cum-designer-retreats are the name of the game in these parts.
Eating and Drinking
One of the great untruths about England is that it has no cuisine of its own. Thanks to its imperial past, the country has been learning the dishes of other nations since the 16th Century – it’s frequently been cooking with their ingredients, too. International dishes are certainly ever-present here (especially in London’s barrage of Michelin-starred restaurants), but you’ll also come across a lot of food that you’ll not find elsewhere in the world.
This is particularly apparent in the country’s coastal areas, where fresh sea fish is prepared with an art distilled over hundreds of years.
Getting Around
Despite what the English will tell you, England’s train system is exceptional: quick, extensive, and comfortable. Most trains have adequate First Class carriages, which means you can travel in style without having to book your ticket too early in advance (though doing so will likely save you a ‘bob’ or two).
