London has something for everyone. It has lush green parks, great stores, many many historic sites, fine dining and so much more. London is also very big. It’s huge. A little advanced planning will go a long way to making your trip a success.

The first thing to realize is there is no way to see the whole of London in a day, or two or even a week. The length of time you have to visit will determine how you visit things. If you only have a day taking a bus tour will let you see the sites but you will not be able to really appreciate them. If you have a longer time the subway and a good guide book will let you savor the experience.

Getting around London on the subway or underground is the easiest thing in the world. Find out what station you’re at and which station is closest to your destination. The best way to do that is with a book called “London A-Z”. You can find it at news
stand. Once you know where you are and where you’re going, figure out the direction. Most underground lines go in two directions from a given station. There are also large signs showing the stops on that line from your station to the final station.

Money in London is not an issue. Most places take the major credit cards and the cash machines take Interact. I usually withdrew enough money for a day or two to avoid using plastic. Prices in London are pretty reasonable. Save money by not
eating or buying things near really popular tourist destinations such as the British Museum. Prices are much more expensive.

Expect to get a pretty good work out. You can do a lot of walking. You’ll do a lot more if you get lost! Before leaving invest in a good pair of shoes and make sure they’re broken in. A small day pack with a bottle of water and a rain jacket will make your day much more enjoyable.

There are so many things to see. Rather than describe each one in detail, here are a few of the places I most enjoyed visiting:

    The British Museum
The British Library
The Tower of London
Hyde Park (Speakers Corner)
221B Baker St

In summary, get a good map, get good shoes and be prepared. A little advanced
planning and thought will make your trip to London a very enjoyable experience.

Finland has so much more to offer than saunas and lakes, but that’s not to say they don’t add to its charisma. The vast countryside comprises mind-stirring culture, rushing rivers and sweet smelling forests with some effervescent cities thrown in for good measure. And of course, it goes without saying, it is home to one of the most famous figures in the world – Santa Claus!

Iso Syote is a fairytale village that nuzzles into the side of Finland’s southernmost fjell. Set in the midst of the stunning national park, it is home to the Hotel Iso Syote which is embraced from every direction by endless views of pure beauty. Traditional Finnish log cabins adorn the striking scenery with their indescribable charm and present the perfect accommodation for outdoor adventures. It is near impossible for visitors not to find inspiration at this breathtaking resort. With a choice of 30 hotel rooms, 18 sumptuous Fjell Top cottages or 20 Kelo cottages which have their own private sauna and veranda, there is something to suit couples, families or larger groups.

During the winter, miles of picture-perfect scenery is blanketed in soft white snow and the starlit sky braces itself for vibrant evening performances from the mesmeric Northern Lights. In spring the land begins to thaw, revealing splashes of colour and reminding nature to awaken from its long winter sleep. Summer in Finland is completely enchanting and the once frost-bitten land has transformed into a colourful playground for exciting activities. As the Midnight Sun takes permanent residency above the horizon for several months, guests at Iso Syote can really make the most of the sundrenched nights.

Wildlife safaris introduce travellers to the diverse Finnish culture, and indigenous animals such as the lovable husky and reindeer are always eager to meet new guests. Ranua Wildlife Park is home to brown bears, foxes, polar bears and wolves and is a great place to visit when staying at the Hotel Iso Syote. Fishing is a customary pastime in Finland and the clean lakes and rivers that are enveloped by a pristine natural environment, provide a tranquil experience. For visitors wanting a change from the rural surroundings, the nearby port city of Oulu has plenty of shops, cafés, museums and galleries to explore.

For anyone searching for unique holiday ideas, there is nowhere quite like Iso Syote in Finland to rouse the senses and offer guests something completely different.
