As the winter drags on, many people will be looking to escape to the sun before summer arrives. A week of sunshine over the Easter period could be just the fillip that you need after the coldest December and January in the UK for twenty years.
And if sunshine is what you need, where do you need to go to find it? The closest place to home has to be the Canary Islands, where year round spring time temperatures prevail and the rainfall is extremely intermittent. Lanzarote, in particular, is one of the driest islands in the archipelago due to it’s low-lying land mass and proximity to the north African coast.
The island is already well established as a tourist destination, having begun to develop its holiday industry back in the early 1970’s. It has three main resorts, which all hug the southern and eastern coastlines, providing the best micro-climates for visitors from colder shores.
In the oldest resort of Puerto del Carmen, an excellent mixture of accommodation means that there is something to suit every holidaymaker. The hotels in Lanzarote , for instance, range from the more basic aparthotels with two keys to full five star luxury at one of the six establishments of this quality.
Whilst for those who prefer more privacy and personal space the best kind of accommodation can be found by booking villas in Lanzarote . Which come with private swimming pools as standard and living arrangements that provide a similar level of comfort as one’s own home.
The best way for visitors to enjoy a stay in a villa is to hire a car in Lanzarote during their stay. Not only is this much cheaper than in the UK but fuel costs are also much lower, making this an affordable way to get the most out of the holiday. As there is plenty to see and visit across the island.
Lanzarote is packed with unique attractions that were designed and created by the internationally renowned artist César Manrique. His vision for the island has been kept intact by strict building controls and a dedication to maintaining these centres of art and culture in as pristine a condition as possible.
Visitors are often blown away by his creations, which include the amazing Jameos del Agua, the Cactus Garden and the Mirador del Rio. All of which illustrate an individual aspect of the island’s history and culture and are well worth a visit.
