One of the more innovative, and increasingly popular, ways to try out a new city is with a house swap.
This is an arrangement between two parties to live in each other’s homes for a set period of time. Sometimes this even includes the use of each other’s cars, as well as any other amenities associated with the house.
Many people choose to hire someone to look in on their house while they are away. Now, not only is hiring a house sitter unnecessary, but your vacation accommodations are now free as well.
There are a great number of websites now devoted to mediating the details of a house swap. Oftentimes the swaps are very straightforward. You simply search for a desired destination and/or ideal travel dates and look for a match. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when planning a trip involving a trade such as this so as to make the trip as smooth as possible.
When looking for a potential house swap arrangement, it is helpful to determine how flexible you are with your travel plans. Leeway with dates and locations will give you a much broader range of places from which to choose. Also, although it may be convenient for a large group or a family to have a house to stay in while vacationing, it sometimes proves difficult when arranging travel dates. However, with the rising amount of swappers, it can definitely be done with a little extra planning.
Another thing to keep in mind is the size of the home. Although usually offering much more space than a hotel, it is important to assess your size needs and inquire about the number of bedrooms, bathrooms, and the size of the living space.
