Tips on Public Transportation in Heidelberg

If you have been to Heidelburg in Germany, you will know that it has a comprehensive transportation system. Tourists can get around Heidelburg by funicular railway, bicycles, tram, train and car. Kornmarkt station is the main funicular railway station. The station has a hotel. There is a large parking lot for all kinds of vehicles. You can take the train that operates in the lower funicular railway. The funicular railway train can bring you to a number of destinations in Heidelburg including castles, palaces and etc. When the lower funicular reaches the castle, it will change direction and goes to the Molkenkur station. From the Mokenkur station, you can take a ride in the upper funicular railway. The upper funicular railway is the oldest railway that operates in Germany. The upper funicular railway has been operating in Germany since 1907. If you take the train at Kornmarkt, you can reach the castle in 2 minutes. You can also go to castle by traveling on the Burgweg road. You can also travel to the castle by climbing the steps at Schlossweg. You can get a magnificent view of the city by walking on top of the castle.
Many people travel to Heidelberg by bicycle. There is a large bicycle parking garage at the central station. The bicycle parking in 2010 is quite in order compare to previous years. You can find bicycle rentals throughout the city. You can rent new and refurbished bicycles at the rental shop.
If you want to travel by tram, you can go to the central station. The central station offers tram services to several destinations including Bismarckplatz and etc. You can buy the City Ticket to travel in the tram. The ticket for riding the tram is $1.10 Euro.
You can also travel around the town by foot. Most of the streets are covered with cobblestone. If you choose to travel on foot, you can stop by at the shops along the street. During Christmas, a Christmas market will be held. In the Christmas market, you will find all kinds of stuffs for Christmas decorations at reasonable prices.
